Steak in Creamy Cajun Shrimp Sauce
This is the kind of dinner that feels like it belongs in a cozy little restaurant… except you’re making it at home in about half an hour. Juicy steak with a golden crust, buttery garlic aroma in the air, and a creamy Cajun shrimp sauce that’s just spicy enough to make everything taste a little more exciting—this one has “special night” written all over it.
It’s rich, warm, and a little dramatic in the best way. The steak sizzles as it hits the pan, the garlic blooms in butter, and then that creamy sauce comes together with all the browned bits from the skillet—pure flavor. When you spoon the shrimp-studded sauce over the steak, it’s honestly hard not to pause for a second and admire it.

Perfect for date night, a weekend treat, or anytime you want to cook something that feels impressive without turning your kitchen into a disaster zone.
Ingredients
For the Steak
2 ribeye or sirloin steaks (about 1-inch thick)
Salt and black pepper, to taste
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
2 cloves garlic, smashed
For the Cajun Shrimp Sauce
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
8 oz large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning (plus more to taste)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup low-sodium chicken broth
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
Salt and black pepper, to taste
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
1) Get the steaks ready
Pat the steaks dry with paper towels—this is what helps them sear instead of steam. Season both sides generously with salt and black pepper.
Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. When it’s hot and shimmering, lay the steaks in the pan. You should hear that immediate, confident sizzle.
Sear for about 3–4 minutes per side for medium-rare (adjust for your preferred doneness). In the last minute, add the butter and smashed garlic. Tilt the pan slightly and spoon that garlicky butter over the steaks. It’s the kind of simple step that makes everything feel extra.
Transfer the steaks to a plate, tent loosely with foil, and let them rest.
2) Cook the shrimp
In the same skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the shrimp and sprinkle with Cajun seasoning. Cook for 1–2 minutes per side, just until they’re pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp and set aside so they don’t overcook.
3) Make the creamy Cajun sauce
Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 30 seconds—just until fragrant.
Pour in the chicken broth and scrape up all those browned bits stuck to the bottom. That’s where the magic is.
Stir in the heavy cream, Parmesan, smoked paprika, and a pinch more Cajun seasoning. Let it simmer for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly and looks silky.
4) Finish it off
Return the shrimp to the skillet and stir to coat them in the sauce. Let everything simmer for about 1 minute—just long enough to warm the shrimp through.
Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if needed. More Cajun seasoning for heat, a pinch of salt if it needs brightness, and a few cracks of black pepper for that cozy warmth.
5) Serve
Plate the rested steaks and spoon the creamy Cajun shrimp sauce generously over the top. Don’t be shy here—this sauce is the whole point.
Presentation
For that “restaurant plate” look, slice the steak against the grain and fan it slightly on the plate, then ladle the sauce over the top so the shrimp sit right where you can see them. Finish with chopped parsley for a fresh pop of color.
Serve it with mashed potatoes or rice so nothing goes to waste—because that sauce will absolutely deserve to be scooped up. Even sautéed green beans or roasted asparagus works beautifully if you want something lighter on the side.
