Whether it’s date night, a celebration, or simply a “why not?” dinner at home, this recipe delivers that steakhouse magic — without ever leaving your kitchen.
Let’s cook something extraordinary.

Ingredients
For the Filet Steaks:
2 filet mignon steaks (6–8 ounces each)
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons butter
2 cloves garlic, smashed
1 sprig fresh thyme (optional)
For the Garlic Shrimp:
10–12 large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
½ teaspoon paprika
Salt and black pepper, to taste
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
1 teaspoon lemon juice
For the Creamy Pan Gravy:
1 tablespoon butter
1 small shallot, finely minced
½ cup beef broth
¼ cup dry white wine
½ cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Extra chopped parsley, for garnish
Instructions
1. Season the filets
Pat the steaks dry with paper towels. This helps them develop that beautiful crust.
Season both sides generously with salt, freshly ground black pepper, and garlic powder. Filet is tender and mild — good seasoning makes all the difference.
2. Sear to perfection
Heat olive oil in a heavy skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Carefully place the filets in the pan. You should hear that satisfying sizzle immediately.
Sear for about 3–4 minutes without moving them. Flip and cook another 3–4 minutes for medium-rare, adjusting slightly for your preferred doneness.
During the final 2 minutes, add butter, smashed garlic, and thyme. Tilt the pan and spoon the melted butter over the steaks repeatedly. The aroma of garlic and thyme will fill the kitchen.
Remove the steaks and let them rest while you prepare the shrimp.
3. Cook the garlic shrimp
In the same skillet — keeping all that flavorful goodness — add olive oil and butter.
Sauté the minced garlic for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the shrimp, paprika, salt, and pepper.
Cook for 2–3 minutes per side. They’ll turn pink and opaque quickly. Finish with a squeeze of lemon juice and a sprinkle of parsley. Remove and set aside.
4. Make the creamy pan gravy
Lower the heat to medium. Add butter and minced shallots to the skillet. Cook until softened and slightly translucent.
Pour in the white wine. Let it simmer for 2–3 minutes, scraping up the browned bits from the bottom of the pan — that’s pure flavor.
Add the beef broth and let it reduce slightly. Then stir in the heavy cream and Dijon mustard. Simmer gently until the sauce thickens into a silky, spoon-coating gravy.
Taste and adjust with salt and pepper as needed.
5. Assemble the dish
Place each rested filet on a serving plate. Spoon the creamy pan gravy generously over the top.
Arrange the garlic shrimp neatly over each steak. Finish with a sprinkle of fresh parsley and a crack of black pepper.
Serve immediately while everything is warm and luscious.
Presentation
For a true steakhouse feel, serve the filet over creamy mashed potatoes or alongside roasted asparagus. The gravy will pool beautifully around the steak, creating that restaurant-style look.
If you want to elevate it even more, warm the plates before serving. A final drizzle of sauce around (not just on) the steak makes the dish look polished and elegant.
And don’t forget — a glass of red wine pairs beautifully here.
